ISHMUN 2025 Bridging Global Divides Through Student Innovation

On June 6–7, 2025, the International School Hilversum hosted ISHMUN 2025, a powerful two-day Model United Nations (MUN) conference that brought together over 150 student delegates from across the Netherlands. With the theme “Conflict to Consensus: The Role of Human Innovation to Bridging Divides,” the event sparked global conversations, cultivated diplomatic thinking, and showcased how youth-driven dialogue can shape the future.

A Theme Rooted in Today’s Real-World Challenges

The heart of ISHMUN 2025 lay in its forward-thinking theme. Students tackled issues such as cybersecurity, climate justice, and post-pandemic recovery, all while exploring how innovation can be a powerful force for peace. Each delegate represented a different country, practicing the art of negotiation, compromise, and collaboration — skills essential in today’s polarized world.

A Student-Led Movement of Change

What sets ISHMUN apart is that it is entirely student-led. From the Secretariat to the Press Corps, every detail was organized by high school students. Months of planning culminated in a professional and inclusive experience that mirrored real-world diplomatic forums. The support of the MUN Director and staff advisors helped polish the edges, but the spotlight remained firmly on the students.

Community Spirit Amid Crisis

One of the standout moments of ISHMUN 2025 came when families from the International School Hilversum stepped in to host students from Stedelijk Gymnasium Arnhem, allowing them to attend despite national transport strikes. This simple but profound act of generosity highlighted the true meaning of global citizenship and community — a core value of ISHMUN’s mission.

Beyond Debate: Art, Media & Culture

ISHMUN 2025 was more than just speeches and formal debate. Attendees enjoyed an art exhibit, committee photo sessions, and live coverage from the student-run media team. These cultural elements added texture to the event, helping students reflect not just on policies, but on shared humanity.

Gratitude to the Backbone of ISHMUN

Behind every successful youth event is a strong adult network. The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) played a vital role in supporting ISHMUN 2025 — from logistics to hospitality. Their efforts were a reminder that empowering students starts with enabling their dreams at every level.

A Model of Global Citizenship in Action

In the end, ISHMUN 2025 wasn’t just a conference — it was a living model of what happens when youth lead with purpose. The event proved that students are capable of tackling global issues with creativity, empathy, and vision. From bridging divides between nations to building friendships across schools, ISHMUN demonstrated the power of human innovation in action.

Looking Ahead to ISHMUN 2026

As the final gavel dropped, one thing became clear: ISHMUN is more than a school event — it’s a movement. With momentum building and lessons learned, we’re already excited for what ISHMUN 2026 will bring. Until then, the legacy of ISHMUN 2025 lives on in every student who dared to debate, innovate, and dream of a more united world.
